When I was in 4th grade, my teacher read to us a book about a young girl living in colonial times (or so one would think). Then, she find out she is part of a museum exhibit (like a living display), and escapes from the museum into our present-day time (2000) I was just wondering what the book was called and maybe the author.
Thanks!

How much can a beginning author start at?

I’m currently in the process of writing my first book; the category is historical/time travel romance (roughly 400pgs is my goal). If I was accepted with a publisher, how much do you think I, as a new author, would get?
I understand every publisher is different, but I was wondering if there is an average. Since I am just starting, I have no idea what a book of this genre is worth… a couple hundred? thousand?

I’m writing because I am just that – a writer; and because I love to write. I’m not writing for the sole purpose of making money (I’ve seen some of the answers to other peeps questions on here; this is why I feel I have to say this)
But the reason I ask about the monetary compensation, is because I would like it to be my sole occupation. I despise the job Im currently at and it would be nice to know that if my book is accepted and published, I could leave said job immediately and work on the second book! =)
(forgive any typos, its 430am!)
Oh yes, also to add, with research, editing, proof-reading, and overall writing in general; it can be very time consuming… I have long since decided it is my goal that the afore-mentioned despised job is the last one… to change jobs would just take time and energy away from completing my novel.

I am doing a research paper and I was told to cite everything with the author and page number like this: (Twain, 3) But some of my sources do not have authors. How would I cite them?
I was wondering how to cite it IN the paper rather than in the Works Cited page.

When you are asked How does the author’s writing reveal the conflict experienced the character?
are you being asked to just identify the character’s conflict in the text or are you being asked to identify the techniques the writer uses to show the conflict the character is experiencing e.g contrast, irony?

REV TEXAS asked:

I’m doing a paper on Guy De Maupassant The Necklace. And I’m doing a paragraph on the Point of View which is third person omniscient. Why would Maupassant use third person? If you never have read the short story why would you as an author want to write a story in third person? Besides that you want to show how the characters are inside. Thanks!
